The story behind this is about several small things of myself and my friends. Ali (Pakistani) said he was afraid to be seen as a “terrorist”, Andrew (Nigerian) was cast stragne look by Finnish people on the bus everytime when commuting. When Andrew and Chia first saw me, they thought I was a boy (I’m not offended but amused). And in post-covid time, Chinese are still seen as virus. Someone shouted bad words to Chia once, but she’s not EVEN Chinese lol. And since I had studied in BUAA, which is defined as a top military-related university in China, although what I learned was translation between English and Chinese, cases like me would not be accepted by western universities anymore gradually. But is it legit to place me in the default position of a spy?
The era I was growing up in believes the concept of “Earth as a village”, but not anymore. Economic downturn needs a scapegoat, so that everyone can have some not-our-people to blame. But, seriously, “that me, Tom, and Jerry, won the second world war? We defeated Germany?” (standup comedian joke I can’t remember the exact names and the comedian, sry but you get the idea). No one can escape the snowflakes from a snowstorm, best one can do is to not accuse another human being who looks different from their very limited knowledge of human faces, or wish they don’t exist at all.
In Finland, students might work part-time low-paid. But only non-European immigrant students still have to work as cleaners or such after graduation with a master degree due to systematic discrimination for the benefit of the welfare system of the Finnish society. Source: Helsingin Sanomat
